FIXTURES
*winner of each group will be determined by points collected (refer Rule 9). If there were teams with same points, number of goals scored will be taken into account. If they are still the same, then goal difference will be calculated to find the group winner. ** Refer Rule 18 to determine the winner in the event of draw in the final match RULES Players The maximum number of players at any given time is 5. The maximum number of males on court at any time must not exceed four(4) in mixed games. The minimum number of players on court without incurring a forfeit is two (2) (This can be made up of a maximum of two (2) males). If a team has an incorrect ratio, if either plays with fewer players and therefore the correct ratio, or plays a ‘friendly’ game with the incorrect ratio and assumes an automatic loss. The umpire and both team captains prior to the start of the game must agree upon automatic loss. Player equipment All players are required to wear a team uniform consisting of the same colored tops. All players must remove objects such as watches/jewellery that may be dangerous to other players. A wedding band or a medic alert bracelet may be worn, but must be appropriately taped. Nails must be cut Appropriate non marking covered footwear must be worn Substitution of players Substitution of players can only occur when the team substituting has possession of the ball. To play Not only does it keep the other team waiting, late starts affect the whole fixtures times, therefore the clock will start running at the scheduled time. If a team is late, they will be penalized accordingly and the game will go on. Late Penalties: 2 minutes late 4 points 3 minutes late 6 points 4 minutes late 8 points Each minute thereafter 2 points. Games will be forfeited if a team is not ready to play within ten (10) minutes of scheduled starting time. Length of the games Games comprise of two (2) 6 (6) minute halves with no break at half time, which means after playing for 6 minutes, the teams will change side of court for fair chance/play. There will 2 minutes break between subsequent match Methods of scoring Points can be scored from anywhere on the court A ball shot from behind the 3-point line is worth three (3) points, and any other shot is worth two (2) points. Competition points Win = 3 points Draw = 2 points Loss = 1 point Forfeit = -1 point General rules All rules are as per normal basketball rules with the following exceptions: Defense is not permitted in the backcourt. A warning will be issued after the first two (2) infringements, followed by a technical foul to be awarded to the bench of the infringing team on any third subsequent violation. At the start of the game a male and a female key way will be designated. Males are not allowed in the female key way at any point of the game vice versa. Fouls and free passes If umpire’s decisions are not adhered to, infringing players may be asked to adjust or be warned and penalties and fouls may be given (the umpire’s discretion) Once a team receives 6 fouls within one half of the opposing team will shoot free throws on each subsequent foul. On fouls 7-10 this will be a one and one situation where player who is fouled received one foul shot to begin. If this shot is missed the games continues on but if it is made that shooter get a second free throw opportunity. After a team has received 10 fouls in a half, all fouls after this will result in opposing teams getting two free throws. The team foul count will re-set back to zero at the start of second half. Violations A violation is an infringement of rules A penalty is the loss of the ball by the team that committed violation The ball is awarded to the opponents for a throw in from out of bounds at the closest point to the infraction, EXCEPT DIRECTLY BEHIND THE BACKBOARD. Out of bounds - Occurs when any part of a player with possession of the ball or the ball goes outside the boundaries of the court. The ball is awarded against the team who caused the out of bounds Dribble - starts when a player, having gained control of the ball, throws, taps or rolls it on the floor and touches it again before it touches another player. Travel rule - a PIVOT takes place when a player who is holding the live ball steps once or more in any direction with the same foot, while the other foot, called the ‘pivot’ foot, is kept at its point of contact with the floor. TRAVELLING or progressing with the ball(inside the playing court), is the moving of one or both feet in any direction while holding the ball in excess of the limits. The three-second rule - While his/her team is in control of the ball, a player shall NOT remain for more than three (3) consecutive seconds in the opponents’ restricted area. Interference with the ball on offence or defence - An offensive or defensive player may not touch the ball when it is in its downward flight and completely above the level of the ring during shot for a field goal. Personal Fouls A foul is an infraction of the rules then the personal contact with the opponent of a non-sports-person-like behaviour is involved: BLOCKING - is a personal contact, which impedes the progress of an opponent CHARGING - is personal contact, with or without the ball, by pushing or moving into an opponent’s torso GUARDING FROM THE REAR- is a personal contact with an opponent by a defensive player from behind the opponent. The mere fact that the defensive player is attempting to play the ball does not justify his making contact with an opponent . HANDCHECKING - is the action by defensive player in guarding situation where the hand(s) are used to contact an opponent to either impede his progress or to assist the defensive player in guarding his opponent HOLDING - is personal contact with an opponent that interferes with his freedom of movement. THis contact (holding) can occur with an part of the body ILLEGAL USE OF HANDS - occurs when a player contacts an opponent with his hand(s) in an attempt to play the ball. If such contact is only with the opponent’s hand while it is on the ball, it shalll be considered incidental PUSHING - is personal contact with any part of the body that takes place when a player forcibly moves or attempts to move an opponent who has or does not have control of the ball. ILLEGAL SCREENING - is an attempt to illegally delay or prevent an opponent who does not control the ball from reaching a desired position on the playing court. Penalty for personal foul - A personal foul shall be charged to the offender in all cases. In addition: (a)If a foul is committed by a player while his team is in control of the ball, the game shall resumed by a throw in the non-offending team from out of bounds nearest the place of the infraction. (b)If the foul is committed on a player who is NOT in the act of shooting, the games shall be resumed by a throw in by the non-offending team from out of bounds nearest the place of the infraction. (c)If the foul is committed on a player who IS on the act of shooting; If the goal is made, it shall count and one (1) free throw shall be awarded If the shot for goal for 2 points is unsuccessful, two (2) free throws shall be awarded If the shot for for 3 points is unsuccessful, three (3) free throws shall be awarded Double Foul A double foul is a situation in which two opposing players commit fouls against each other at approximately the same time. Penalty for double foul A team foul will be added for each tot he overall team count of each individual foul that is committed. Free throws will only be rewarded of the foul causes the team/s involved to be over the maximum foul count of 6 for the half. The game shall be resumed by a jump ball at the nearest circle between the two players involved (unless free throws are being shot). If a valid field goal is scored at the same time, the opponents of the team whoscored shall put the ball into play from the end line. Technical Foul Technical fouls by a player are all player fouls, which do NOT involve contact with an opponent. A player shall not disregard admonitions by an Officials or use non-sportsperson-like tactics such as: Disrespectfully addressing or contacting the Official Using language or gestures likely to offend Baiting an opponent r obstructing his vision by waving his hands near his eyes Delaying the game by preventing the throw in being taken promptly Entering the court as a substitute without reporting to the Scorer and being beckoned by an Official Grasping the ring in such a way the the ring supports the weight of the player. A player may grasp the ring if, in the judgment of the Official, he is trying to prevent injury or to another player Penalty for technical foul A technical foul shall be charged to the offender. Two (2) free throws shall be awarded to the opponents. The Captain shall designate the free throw shooter. Suspensions and Ejections Incidents of a dangerous unsportmanlike nature that are reported by the umpire or an opposing team will be taken seriously. All information regarding the incident will be taken into account and a decision on an appropriate resulting action will be made by the sports co-ordinator in consultant with senior members or staff. Actions may include being removed from the game of venue when the incident occurs, an official warning or suspension of at least 1 game. Any player that receives two technical fouls in one game will be ejected from that match. If this results in the team not having enough numbers to play on, then that team will forfeit the match. Forfeits and withdrawals Teams must attend every fixtured game for the season or notify MASCA QLD Sports if they cannot attend a fixtured game and a forfeit will result. A forfeit may be declared if: (a)A game does not start within 10 minutes of the allocated starting time (b)A team fails to honor their fixtured game If a team forfeits their match, the opposing team will be awarded a win 20-0. 18.Final procedures In the event of a draw in the final match, teams will go to extra time consisting of five (5) minutes and the team that finishes the extra time with the most points wins. In the event that scores are still tied at the end of the extra time, the game will reset, a jump ball will be issued and the first team who scores wins the final. |
