Let's face it: it's tough moving away from home, espcially when it's your first time away from all that is familiar and it's to another place where people can't quite decide wether it's an island or a continent, where people speak English with names, accent and lingo that doesn't quite make it sound like they're speaking English and football is not really 22 blokes running, jumping and diving on a pitch trying to put a spherical ball past a big guy wearing oversized mittens. To make Malaysian students feel welcome in this strange, strange land they call Australia, MASCA QLD organised a start-of-the-semester event in the form of a favourite Aussie culture: a barbeque.

We had an excellent turnout from Malaysians of all walks of life and clubs and societies put on commendable efforts for their booths. There were speeches from our chairperson and a representative from Malaysian Students' Department, games, food, freebies and a Best Booth competition, won by Kelab UMNO Queensland for their wonderful kiosk. It was a great response from everyone and MASCA QLD would like to express special thanks to Encik Nazar from MSD who flew in especially for the event, and thank you for being there!

Photos will be uploaded to this page soon, but in the meantime, feel free to check out the albums on Facebook and have a ball at tagging and commenting as well as adding your own photos:
